According to WHO, over 800,000 people die due to suicide and millions people suffering from suicide bereavement every year. Suicide is a global phenomenon and also one of the most urgent global issues. In Taiwan, accoding to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, it is the top 11th cause of death among the nation in 2015, and there are 2675 killing themselves at this year.



Geder/ Age

In terms of gender, suprisingly, males has almost twice higher suicidal rate than females. Will this indicate that males are more unhappy than females? This is not an easy to answer question though, we will discuss this in the subsequent paragraph.

Besides, in terms of age, the population with the highest suicidal risk is about 30-49 years old, just in ones' primes. The average cost of one suicide is $1,795,379 in the US. It has also cost uncoutable social resouces in Taiwan.





DEPRESSION







Depression is often considered highly correlated with suicidal ideation. Actually, appearing suicidal ideation is one symptom of Depression.

However, in the bar chart, we can easily find that the prevalence rate of Depression is almost twice higher than males, which is exactly the opposite of the prevalence rate of suicide between genders.
